Ba dee ya, say do you remember . . .

Summer is over and we are in full on Autumn mode. We're baking pumpkin cookies and planning Halloween costumes. I thought I had Halloween all figured out actually, but there's a little something that happens every year. I think I'm planned and ready and then the little boys mess it all up. Why do they have to grow up and get their own opinions? I loved it when Charlie was a baby and let me dress him up as whatever I wanted. He was the cutest little King Kong, climbing all over Skyscraper Mike and chewing on that little blond doll we got to complete the effect. This year, the boys got excited about being the Three Stooges. But of course, they both want to be Curly. And no one is willing to budge on that one. Hmmm. What to do.

I went to my first PTO meeting yesterday. I don't know if I can handle it. I'd really rather just volunteer in the classroom, helping kids learn to read, instead the PTO is all about big events. And this year they are planning a Halloween carnival. And they are having it actually ON Halloween. And it includes dinner. Am I the only person who likes to have my own family traditions for that holiday? We always have tacos and a big thing of homemade root beer bubbling over with dry ice. We actually enjoy trick or treating around our neighborhood and talking to our neighbors. Please tell me I'm not the only one. Now how did I get back on the subject of Halloween? Oh right the PTO. They've asked me to be in charge of the Spring Fun Run. And the more I think about it, the more I'm wishing I had said no. But maybe by then I'll be more excited about the whole thing.

On a more positive note, both boys are loving school. Charlie is doing homework every night and practicing spelling words. Two 100% tests so far! And he's doing really well at the piano too. He likes to play and is excited about learning another instrument when he gets older. Right now he's decided on the cello because of this video: Cello Wars

Peter got to take the snacks to pre-school today and was so excited about it. We walked down the cracker isle while he looked at everything and talked about what snacks they had already had and what ones they hadn't, before settling on some Ritz pretzel mini crackers. Then he said we should get something healthy and headed to the produce section for some salad. I talked him into bananas instead. Or has he says it, bla-na-nas.

Andy is getting more stubborn and opinionated every day, but he is quick to smile at even the slightest bit of attention. He's going to be cruising around on his feet in no time.

Mike is coaching both boys' soccer teams. It's been fun, but he's ready to be done. It's taking a lot more time than we thought it would. And between church, soccer, and work (where his boss quit and he's having to pick up a lot of the slack), he hardly has a minute to breathe.
