Memorial Day 2009

This Memorial Day:

I feel so lucky to have known all four of my grandparents and I miss them terribly.

I feel blessed to have such wonderful cousins.

I am grateful for Aggie Ice Cream & Log Cabin Candy (even though I didn't manage to get either while in Logan yesterday.)

I am thankful to those who have in the past protected the freedoms we share as Americans, and to those who currently work to ensure that we keep them.

An Amazing Birthday

Mike really went all out to make this birthday a special one. Before he left in the morning, he handed me an envelope. Inside was a clue sending me to Starbucks at 10. My mom showed up just before I left to watch the kids and I headed out the door. Waiting at Starbucks were three things: Patti, a gift card and another clue. Patti and I got some hot cocoa and headed to Pier 1 where there was another clue and gift card waiting. After some shopping, Patti went home to her kids, and I headed to Cafe Rio, the next stop on this day out. My mom met me there, having left the kids with Ron, and we had lunch before going across the street to my final stop- the mall where another gift card was waiting so that I could get some new clothes. I just can't believe that Mike when to all that trouble to make up the clues, buy the gift cards, and leave them all at the various places around town. I have no idea when he did it, but it was a wonderful day.

Then when he got home from work, he brought the stuff for a BBQ and an ice-cream cake from Baskin Robbins. He doesn't always think to do things for my birthday, but when he does he goes all out. What a fantastic and thoughtful husband I have!

Birthday season is officially over for 2009. Next year Mike and I are both turning 30, so we're going to throw a big birthday party somewhere in between our two birthdays . . . who wants to come?

Birthday Celebrations

We celebrated my mom's birthday on Friday, and I got to use my Mother's Day present- Mike gave me this cake plate a little early. I love it when he pays attention to what I want. The kids helped me decorate the cake, and then Charlie ate half the M&Ms before my parents even got here.

On April 28th, I also got to make my step-dad's birthday cake. It was a recipe from the family cookbook and it was absolutely to die for! Charlie insisted on blowing out the candles, and grandpa was nice enough to let him. ;)

Next is my birthday . . .

Brothers

They laugh at the funny faces they can make. They chase each other around the house and the yard. And then they fall to the ground in fits of giggles. I never realized what joy I would find, standing on the sidelines, watching my boys play together.

Our Little Garden

Yes it's small and simple, and we've got a lot crammed into that small space, but I'm so excited that we actually did it. We planted pole beans, carrots, beets, lettuce, zucchini, broccoli and Brussels sprouts. I can't wait to see what grows!
