Okay. Please don't start any debates.
All I hear lately is negativity about our president. That he's completely controlled by those around him. That he's built up more debt than all past presidents combined. That he's a big old socialist. And from what I've been able to discover, most of it is true. Maybe it's just all I hear because I live in a very republican community, but I find myself sinking into a pit of disgust at what he is trying to do to the U.S.A.
So my question is this . . . what is there good about him? I know some of you voted for him. I know some of you still support him. Tell me please, because I want to be able to feel good about something that is happening in this country that I love.
If all you're bringing is more negativity, I don't want to hear it right now. Please keep the comments positive . . . I'm hoping there is something positive. Give me some hope that this is not how I'm going to feel for the next three and a half years.

I know how you feel. That is the only positive thing that I can say. :)
I think there are some positives about Obama. Here are a few:
1. He's trying to tackle very difficult problems rather than avoid them. You may disagree with his approach but he should be lauded for his attempt.
2. He's working to improve our international reputation. I have no idea whether he is being successful or not, but I know I don't hear a lot about how all the other countries hate our president (I don't know if that was the press or truth for President Bush, but it was printed a lot).
3. He provides a very rich example of going from the bottom to the top even when you face disadvantages and problems.
4. He has encouraged Americans to serve more and look out for each other. A great idea.
5. He's presiding over a relatively successful effort in Iraq. Again, I don't know if that is from him or from others (i.e., Bush), but things do seem to be improving over there. Also, he hasn't pulled everyone out and made the country collapse like some people predicted.
6. Here is a decent article http://www.examiner.com/x-11781-Carroll-County-Conservative-Examiner~y2009m5d31-What-Obama-is-doing-right
Again, I don't think I like everything he is doing (just like Bush, Clinton, Bush, Reagen, etc.), but I do think we can find good in what he is doing.
Great article. Thanks for that.
OK, so I don't want to get negative here but lets keep the most basic facts straight...
Like Obama I grew up in Hawaii too. Obama grew up in a very affluent neighborhood, in a lovely home provided to him by his grandparents. He went to the single most expensive private school on the island, Punahou. (Tuition was outrageous when he was there...$13,000 a year, yes thirteen thousand a year..now for the 2009-2010 school year its up to $17,300 a year...even for kindergarten! Even though my father was the Chief Administrator of the FAA... Federal Aviation Admin, and were very frugal, my parents could not afford to send me there. I had to go to public schools) He was groomed for and ivy league school and in fact did go on to graduate from an Harvard with a top notch education. He had a great family support growing up of extended family, a lot more than a lot of kids, on a beautiful island in the pacific. Great things should come from someone like that. What makes you think he started at the bottom and went to the top and had disadvantages? He was handed life on a silver platter.
I'm so sorry but #3 statement is just media hype.
